Canva has announced the launch of a new AI-powered tool that allows users to turn text prompts into videos. The tool, called "Create a Video," is part of Canva's suite of integrated AI features and is powered by Google's Veo 3 model, one of the latest AI video-generation models.
Thanks to this advanced technology, the tool offers impressive capabilities, including cinematic-quality video generation and native audio creation. Currently, the feature is available to Canva paid subscribers, nonprofit users, and members of its Leonardo platform.
In an official blog post, Canva, which is headquartered in Sydney, announced the release of the new tool as part of its visual communications platform.
The feature is available to subscribers of Canva Pro, Canva Teams, and Canva Enterprise, as well as nonprofit accounts, particularly those using the individual Canva Pro plan. To access it, users can navigate to the Canva AI section in the homepage sidebar and select "Create a Video."
At present, the tool can generate videos up to 8 seconds long, with an initial monthly limit of five videos per user. Canva plans to increase this limit in the future. According to a review by the Gadgets 360 team, the tool accurately followed prompts and produced realistic videos with synchronized audio in under two minutes. Once generated, the video automatically opens in Canva's editor, where users can further modify it using various editing tools.
Videos are created at a resolution of 1920 × 1080 pixels. While users can edit the content after generation, changing the aspect ratio is not currently supported. However, the videos can be converted into other design formats.
Canva also stated that the feature is protected by its built-in safety system, Canva Shield, which monitors both inputs and outputs to help prevent the creation of harmful or unsafe content.
Additionally, Canva announced its intention to acquire MagicBrief, an AI-powered creative intelligence platform. However, the acquisition has not yet been finalized, and the company has not disclosed any financial details of the proposed deal.
