Meta is preparing to unveil a new version of its smart glasses on June 20, in collaboration with the renowned sports eyewear brand Oakley. This marks the first partnership between the two companies, following Meta’s previous collaboration with Ray-Ban.
As an early teaser for the product, Andrew Bosworth, Meta’s Chief Technology Officer, shared a short promotional video on X that displayed only the logos of the two companies, without revealing any details about the design or features. Meanwhile, Oakley posted a message on Instagram stating, “The next evolution arrives June 20,” fueling curiosity and speculation about the upcoming product.
Although detailed information has not yet been released, expectations suggest that the glasses will feature a sports-oriented design focused on physical performance and active lifestyles. This could help attract a new audience, including athletes and outdoor adventure enthusiasts.
According to technology reports, Meta may adopt Oakley’s Sphaera design, which is popular among athletes for its durability and sleek appearance. The glasses are also expected to include a front-facing camera and an open-ear audio system, allowing users to listen to audio without inserting earbuds, making them more suitable for outdoor activities.
This move is part of Meta’s broader effort to expand its presence in the wearable technology market by offering a hands-free, integrated experience that reduces the need to take a smartphone out of a pocket and enhances user immersion in digital content.
It is worth noting that both Oakley and Ray-Ban are owned by EssilorLuxottica, making Meta’s shift toward partnering with Oakley a natural step within the same corporate group, while targeting a different consumer segment.
The smart glasses are expected to be officially unveiled on June 20, amid significant secrecy surrounding the project. However, the marketing campaign suggests that the product is intended for commercial release rather than being merely a prototype or concept device.
